MASSAGE

Must Try

Therapeutic Swedish Massage:

If you’re looking for relaxation and to relieve stress, this is definitely the style of massage that suits you. Swedish technique applies strokes such as kneading, effleurage, and percussion to help release toxic build up in the muscle tissue. I combine Swedish techniques along with therapeutic techniques to break up adhesions with a bit of deeper application than your traditional Swedish approach. Receiving massages like this one increases blood flow, as well as activates the parasympathetic nervous system and detoxifies and lengthens your connective and muscular tissue.
Many clients fall asleep on the table when receiving this type of massage and report euphoria and total relaxation. In the beginning of this journey you’ll find you feel the practitioner discovers places you had no idea were contributing to your area of pain or focus. Many clients describe their experience as “hurts so good and I can tell this is good for me.” You’ll discover and learn more about your body, your habitual patterns that contribute to the structure of your body, and how everything is connected.
This technique uses the application of oil and is a whole body massage with gentle, but firm application. The oil that I use is almond, coconut oil, or jojoba oil. If you have any special requests or are allergic to any nut oils and require a special oil, please be sure to bring your own oil to your appointment.
Deep Tissue
The focus in a deep tissue massage is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). This massage technique uses minimal oil application and techniques such as dredging, press-release, and rolling. Stretching and traction is also applied to help create more range of motion. Typically this technique can be a bit uncomfortable at times due to the very deep pressure. I typically advise my clients to inform me if their pain level increases above a 6 or 7 out of 10 in pain scale. At that point, I do not apply any additional pressure. Although the pain level may be uncomfortable it should be tolerable. I guide my clients through deep breaths to help relax and release the muscle further. Studies have shown significant benefits on lowering blood pressure and heart rate after just a 60 minute deep tissue massage. Other fascinating studies have proven a deep tissue massage increases mood and relaxation by triggering the release of ocytocin (AKA: love hormone) and serotonin. This happens by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system and reducing the stress hormone cortisol in combination with a nurturing touch.
